Hitachi Storage Management and USP-V and USP-VM enhancements, May 2008
"The Hitachi Storage Command Suite and hardware platform enhancements are the fifth Hitachi storage announcement (including the March 2008 file and content services announcement) in a period of twelve months, and each announcement has increased the lead with respect to the major competition. We are impressed with the continued innovation that Hitachi has shown in enterprise storage. Hitachi is continually working to advance its storage management software and its state-of-the-art high-end enterprise arrays. The USP product family delivers industry unique features for high-end enterprise storage such as virtualization layer, extensive partitioning, thin-provisioning and more. This announcement includes hardware improvements, new storage management software suite and substantial enhancements to existing products." (May 2008)
Hitachi Converts Unstructured Data Into Useful and Accessible Information
"After delivering state-of-the-art high-end and midrange storage subsystems, Hitachi continues to entrench its position as an innovative, technology-leading storage hardware and solution vendor with archiving and file serving systems. These additions/enhancements enrich Hitachi Data Systems' portfolio and pave the road to strengthen the company’s position as the ‘infrastructure of choice’ for all storage and archiving applications." (March 2008)
Hitachi "Innovation Machine" Strikes Again with USP Vand USP VM Enhancements
Hitachi engineers have achieved an incredible technological advancement by enabling the Universal Storage Platform V (USP V) to support thin provisioning (Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning [HDP]) of external storage. This also enables all storage connected to a USP V to enjoy the green effects of lower power and cooling requirements, along with simplified capacity management. (November 2007)
The USP VM, Little Big Man, Has No Real Competition
The USP VM leads the industry from every aspect: functionality, scalability, connectivity, serviceability, ease-of-use, and availability. The USP VM deserves to be in a class of its own. There is a huge gap between the USP VM and the many midrange storage subsystems such as EMC’s CLARiiON, HP’s EVA, IBM’s DS 4x00 series, NetApp's FAS6000/9000, and the 3PAR InServ line. Only Hitachi Innovates in High-End Storage
Looking at the architectural developments since the ’90s it appears that Hitachi was the only company constantly developing its high-end storage subsystems, addressing the changing demands of enterprise customers. Hitachi storage subsystems have been leading for many years in hardware design and several years ago took the lead in functionality as well. (August 2007)
