Hitachi - Inspire the Next

Business Continuity : Short Distance Replication

Short-distance replication is most often accomplished through synchronous copy methods. Synchronous replication ensures data integrity by considering a transaction done only when completion is confirmed at the local and remote locations. Thus, the two sites are mirror images. Should an outage occur at the primary site, operations at the secondary site can start very quickly.

New! Introducing Hitachi Replication Manager

Hitachi replication users can now benefit from a uniquely integrated tool that allows them to better control RPO and RTO objectives: Hitachi Replication Manager.

Distance Limitations and Performance Impact

Synchronous replication, however, is limited by the application’s ability to handle the performance impact of propagation delay. Depending on the application’s sensitivity and the communications technology between the two sites, the effectiveness of synchronous copy can begin to degrade at 20 to 100 miles. Our synchronous replication can also be leveraged for "no data loss’ out-of-region topologies in our multiple data center solutions.

Hitachi Data Systems Solution

If short-distance replication meets your needs, the answer is Hitachi TrueCopy™ synchronous remote replication software, which:

  • Achieves rapid restart and recovery with no data loss
  • Improves productivity through use of real production data for data mining and application testing
  • Combines with other Hitachi software to further improve business continuity
  • Is available for open systems and mainframe systems
