Overview

Unified and Easy-to-Use Data Protection

IT departments are usually overwhelmed with the vast array of data protection and management challenges as well as the various solutions and capabilities. Similarly, with the constant pressures to do more with less, improve operational efficiency, and maintain service levels, it can be difficult to focus on business.

Hitachi Data Instance Manager (HDIM) is a unified, easy-to-use, policy- and workflow-based solution that centralizes multiple data protection capabilities for file, SQL and Microsoft® Exchange in Microsoft and Linux mid-tier environments, including remote offices. It includes backup, continuous data protection, archive, snapshot, deduplication, data security and more, with top-down policy management. HDIM protects data and reduces, controls and manages copy data, or data instances. It replaces or augments legacy data protection point-solutions and eliminates backup windows, improves service levels, reduces backup data volumes, supports compliance requirements and improves application uptime, all while helping to reduce costs

  • Eliminate your backup window with a unified continuous data protection and archive solution.

The specified system requirements detail recommended minimum specifications and do not reflect the ideal specifications that specific environments may require. Please contact a Hitachi Data Systems sales representative with details of your intended environment for more specific system requirements.

  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 32 bit or greater can be downloaded from http://www.java.com.
  • Repository configuration should plan for 16GB of hard disk space for cache per Source Node.
  • When more than one configuration is applied to a single node, the higher specification is required.
  • Recent updates and patches of OS should be maintained to minimize problems.
  • When installing Repository on Windows 2008 64-bit, we recommend using the Microsoft Dynamic Cache Service, called Dynacache, available for free via download at Microsoft.
  • Workstation OS such as XP and Windows 7 can be used for HDIM Repository for demo purposes. For production purposes use server based OS such as Windows 2003, Windows 2008 or Linux. The HDIM Master can be installed on XP. It can also reside on Vista and Windows 7 if the UAC "User Account Control" is turned off.

When more than one configuration is applied to a single node, higher specification may be needed.
