Hitachi Data Systems and VMware are fully engaged to deliver industry leading solutions addressing end-to-end server to storage virtualization. VMware server technologies and Hitachi storage and software technologies offer powerful solutions with VMware for storage consolidation, backup and archiving, business continuity and storage management.
With the only full VAAI support for virtualized storage, Hitachi provides a true integrated foundation for VMware environments. Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform supports all 3 VAAI features and through virtualization extends these capabilities to more than 100 heterogeneous storage arrays. No painful migrations. No forklift upgrades. Just raw power and flexibility for your VMware environment.
Virtualization creates new storage requirements—and new opportunities for consolidating servers and information. One of the key features in VMware ESX is the advanced capabilities of VMotion, managed by DRS. Any virtual machine that resides on a Storage Area Network (SAN) can survive a crash of server hardware, which runs this virtual machine, and can be restarted on another ESX Server either manually or under automated control with VMware HA. But this presents a new challenge to the storage infrastructure—you need every virtual server image to be able to access the same storage. Hitachi Data Systems helps you create a flexible, powerful and highly available storage infrastructure that meets your needs today, and lets you grow seamlessly in the future. Our complete range of solutions lets you take full advantage of your VMware infrastructure.
VMware environments can generate multiple copies of applications and data, increasing the amount of redundant data and increasing backup windows. We bring rapid online backup and rapid recovery capabilities to your VMware Virtual Machine environments with our storage system based replication products. And we can provide advanced archiving and data de-duplication capabilities with our Hitachi Content Archive Platform (HCAP) and Virtual Tape Library (VTL) solutions products.
The combination of Site Recovery Manager from VMware and Hitachi's market proven storage and replication products allows customers to perform data center/site failover, ensuring data integrity. The availability of this solution increases the ability to control Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) for our customers and supports their disaster recovery processes, including disaster recovery testing. The unique combination of Hitachi’s storage system-based replication technology and Site Recovery Manager simplifies and automates disaster recovery processes and significantly improves the ability of a customer to be resilient in the event of failover.
The features and performance benefits of the Hitachi solution for VMware Site Recovery Manager include enterprise-class storage array performance combined with solution flexibility to meet differing business demands. Distance replication between production and recovery data centers can be performed by synchronous, TrueCopy or asynchronous Universal Replicator methods. Unique customer benefits of Universal Replicator include the use of disk journal volumes to accommodate temporary data link outages and its use of "pull" data transfer, which offloads the production storage array to focus on business application I/O processing. The in-system replication at the recovery site, ShadowImage, provides local, system-based replication for use by Site Recovery Manager testing or actual failover.
When you deploy VMware solutions, you need to be able to manage your entire infrastructure and link storage resources to individual applications. Only then can you identify and solve issues that affect service levels. With Hitachi HiCommand® storage management products you can rapidly isolate and fix storage problems with minimal affect on running applications.
Hitachi Data Systems and VMware are engaged at all levels of interoperability testing and certifications, support and engineering to assure timely and broad qualification and certifications for our mutual customers.
