IT Leaders Blaze Trail of Legendary Success at 3rd Annual IT Inspiration Awards

CIO Summit and Awards Focus on Driving Business Forward and Creating New Paths to Growth and Stability

Hong Kong, November 11, 2010 — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today, announced the winners of the 3rd annual IT Inspiration Awards in the fifth annual CIO Summit in Tokyo. The CIO Summit and IT Inspiration Awards ceremony was attended by over 80 individuals from the Asia Pacific region comprising CIOs and senior IT executives, partners, media and senior representatives from Hitachi Data Systems and Hitachi, Ltd.

A total of 26 awards were presented this year representing a mix of technical excellence and personal achievement across 5 categories. The award categories and the nominations received reflected the value of information or data and how it could be used as a key corporate asset to guide organizations’ growth and success strategy. The CIO of Telekom Malaysia, Nizam Arshad, walked away with the prestigious CIO of the CIOs award while Telstra, Singapore Health Services Pte Ltd, China Post Saving Bank, Atos Origin were recipients of the top honors in the industry categories.1

"2010 has seen the continuation of economic growth across many of the Asia Pacific economies and the re-emergence of growth for many companies," noted Kevin Eggleston, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, Hitachi Data Systems. "The pace of business is clearly accelerating. To keep up with this pace, IT teams have to display unprecedented levels of flexibility, agility and innovation. This year the IT Inspiration Award nominations clearly demonstrate excellence in IT flexibility, agility and innovation."

"Today’s global economy requires businesses to react at a moment’s notice. An agile data center driven by technologies such as virtualization and cloud is instrumental in a company’s ability to quickly adapt to changes," said Hu Yoshida, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "Showcases like the IT Inspiration Awards acknowledge the ingenuity and innovation that makes the IT scene in the Asia Pacific so vibrant and act as an encouragement to companies across the region to use technology to meet business demands."

The winners of the IT Inspiration Awards were feted at the Hitachi Data Systems’ annual Asia Pacific CIO Summit. The Summit brings together Hitachi executives, IT leaders, global thought leaders and analysts to examine and understand the burning business needs and technological issues of today.

Data center transformation was a key topic of discussion at this year’s CIO Summit. As the volume of data continues to explode, a fundamental transformation of the data center is required to manage that data—the most valuable assets of organizations. Hu Yoshida emphasized the importance of flexibility in building a resilient data center that is highly responsive to changing business and economic conditions, a sentiment that was echoed by the other participants.

The two-day Summit themed "A New Legend of Success" focused on the increasing importance of data, stressing that information is increasingly becoming the new currency for enterprises across Asia. With over 80 IT visionaries in attendance, the fusion of ideas set new benchmarks for technical innovation in the region, inspiring industry leaders to continue to build award winning technology deployments.
