Smaller companies, bigger benefits:
“Plug-and-play SAN Kits” for Microsoft Simple SAN

Making SAN implementation and management simpler, easier From advanced virtualization functionality across all product lines to out-of-the box SAN solutions, we’ve consistently offered high-end storage benefits to small and medium size companies. Then, in December 2005, Hitachi Data Systems reinforced this strategy by achieving the “Microsoft designation” for Simple SAN, revealing a perfect convergence of need, innovation, and will. As they say, “timing is everything.”

Simple SAN is a Microsoft initiative to make storage area networks (SANs) easier to install and manage for Microsoft Windows servers. This initiative calls for storage vendors to provide a SAN kit that meets Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Qualification Laboratories (WHQL) Simple SAN requirements. In conjunction with Qlogic, Hitachi Data Systems became the first Fibre Channel storage vendor to achieve this Simple SAN designation.

Who can take advantage of this high-function, low-cost SAN? The “Plug-and-play SAN Kits for Microsoft Simple SAN” are supported by Hitachi TagmaStore™ Adaptable Modular Storage and Workgroup Modular Storage. In the instance of deployed models AMS200 and WMS100, the SANs can be quickly installed, often under an hour, without onsite assistance. And once installed, the SAN is managed by QLogic’s SANSurfer Express, simplifying ongoing management, and provisioned directly from the Windows server.

The Kits include a Fibre Channel switch, HBAs, all software, cables, and components, shipped with easy-to-follow instructions so that a Windows server customer can install and configure the SAN on a do-it-yourself basis.
