Improve End User Productivity and IT Efficiency with Hitachi File and Content Services
It’s no secret in the storage community that data growth presents a huge challenge. Structured data will continue to grow at a healthy pace in the years ahead, regardless of the current economic conditions. However, the really big story is about unstructured data.
Unstructured data, in the form of e-mail, fixed content archives, images, movies, spreadsheets, Web content, presentations, and other types of content not included in structured databases, will far outpace the growth of structured data in the years ahead. Simply storing this much data will present its own challenges. But even more pressing is the question of how to make this data easier to search through, retrieve and migrate between platforms or tiers so that it actually becomes a useful asset to the business.
With the uncertainty in the global economy, IT departments are facing budget cuts in 2009. It’s critical to find ways to stretch the IT budget through a variety of measures focused on cost reduction and infrastructure simplification. Hitachi Data Systems helps you do more with what you already have. Hitachi File and Content Services aims to improve IT efficiency and end user productivity by speeding up and streamlining search, retrieval and migration. Support for search of NetApp filers, as well as the new ability to move data between the Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform, powered by BlueArc® and the Hitachi Content Archive Platform in a transparent way, provides “intelligent file tiering”: a way of storing data using a flexible and extensible file content and metadata model to assign data to the most appropriate media.
Intelligent file tiering can reduce backup times on front end devices and curb data growth on premium storage by making it easier to move data onto less expensive storage tiers. These improvements can translate to significant cost savings for IT departments.
On the end user side, faster access to data translates to greatly enhanced productivity. With the powerful Hitachi Data Discovery Suite, you can search across platforms and tiers to quickly locate information wherever it’s stored. Users can more efficiently find exactly the data they need and immediately begin to work with it.
Even without the pressures of today’s economy, it’s absolutely vital for businesses to find ways to minimize costs and increase productivity. Hitachi File and Content Services does just that. Intelligent file tiering lets organizations benefit from the economics of tiered storage. The flexibility and scalability of Hitachi storage solutions can integrate and manage all types of data, and even let customers leverage the investments they’ve already made with other vendors. Plus, a single interface provides full text search capability for the Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform, the Hitachi Content Archive Platform and NetApp filers, which simplifies management and mitigates risks. In short, Hitachi storage creates the sort of sensible efficiencies that organizations will always seek out—and which are absolutely required to weather more challenging economic environments. |
