Data Migration – It’s About Virtualization, Tiered Storage and Business Continuity

Data Migration

Migrating your data from one storage system to another is an essential, fundamental data center task. Data migration projects have typically been driven by systems upgrades. Now, with everyone being asked to do more with less, data migration takes on new prominence. Utilizing the virtualization capabilities of the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform® V and Universal Storage Platform VM, you can virtualize all your storage, including third party systems. You can also implement intelligent tiered storage, which matches your application performance, availability and price requirements with the most appropriate storage resources that meet those needs. And, because losing data or access to it can be devastating to a business, data migration is a key element of a comprehensive business continuity solution.

Dynamic Provisioning – Bringing the Power of Thin Provisioning to the Midrange

Dynamic Provisioning

Thin provisioning, which allows you to utilize only the amount of storage capacity you need and eliminates costly over allocation, has long been viewed as an enterprise level tool. Now, Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning software brings it to Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family systems. The Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family is used by many large and enterprise customers for second tier storage or for specific applications like Microsoft® Exchange Server®. Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning software simplifies and adds agility to the storage administration process and lets you defer new storage purchases or enables you to purchase less storage upfront. Its coming availability on Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family systems means you can maximize storage utilization across enterprise and midrange storage to ensure the lower possible total cost of ownership, while taking advantage of the best-in-class features and performance of these storage systems. The software has also been enhanced for the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform family. It now supports automatic dynamic pool rebalancing after virtual storage pool expansion.

A Structure for your Unstructured Data

Structure Unstructured Data

If your organization is like others, a lot of the data in your environment is unstructured and it is growing each year at almost geometric rates. According to research by the Taneja Group, 53% of users indicated that they had 11TB or more of unstructured data in their environment, 62% said that their data is growing at a rate of 16% to 75% per year. Unstructured data includes e-mail, images, video content, reports, contracts, movies, finalized documentation—content essentially not included in structured data management systems such as databases or continually changing files. The real value of unstructured content draws upon its long term authenticity, retention attributes and accessibility.

Now you can consolidate, archive, protect and search unstructured data with an integrated, scalable management platform. Hitachi Solutions for File and Content Services help organizations control their unstructured data environments. File and Content Services combines a services oriented approach with an industry leading family of solutions that enable customers to manage all of their unstructured data seamlessly using a single management platform and providing you with a firm foundation to help meet all your data challenges.
