Efficiency, Resiliency Are Top Priorities for Smart Data Replication

Protecting business data is vital because it plays an ever more important role in today’s business environment. Data must also be retained to meet governmental compliance regulations. But there’s another critical reason to make sure data is retained, protected and preserved: disaster. A company needs its business data to survive if the company itself is to survive. With these business continuity needs and data protection requirements in mind, Hitachi Data Systems designed a comprehensive set of replication solutions.

Hitachi offers replication solutions for local (in-system) and remote deployments. With in-system copies or clones, business application data volumes can be created with either Hitachi ShadowImage® or Copy-on-Write Snapshot software, while remote replication can be performed with Hitachi TrueCopy® (synchronous) or Hitachi Universal Replicator (asynchronous).

Hitachi TrueCopy provides a host- and network-independent data replication solution over metropolitan distances. Because it is synchronous, each write to primary storage is also written to the remote storage system before the write complete acknowledgement is sent back to the host. As a result, both storage systems have the same copy of the data and are completely in sync.

The asynchronous replication capabilities of Hitachi Universal Replicator ensure availability of up-to-date copies of data in dispersed locations, including multiple data centers as well as remote and hot standby data centers. Universal Replicator maintains the integrity of a replicated copy without affecting processing, even in the case of network outages or bandwidth shortages.

Management of an organization’s various business data replication needs can get very complicated very quickly. That's why, in addition to our award winning suite of business continuity solutions, we also offer the knowledge and services of experienced business continuity professionals. These highly skilled experts can help identify your business’s unique requirements and develop a plan to address the requirements, taking into account your unique budget and staffing situation. If you don’t have the staff, skills or time to implement the solution, you can engage our professional services team to perform implementations as well.

Hitachi Replication Manager Offers a Single Tool for Open Systems and Mainframe Environments

Introduced this spring as part of a larger launch of the Hitachi Storage Command Suite, Hitachi Replication Manager allows customers to increase operational efficiencies and improve resilience in replicated environments. In other words, it makes management easier and it protects data more effectively – two major priorities in today’s storage landscape.

Hitachi Replication Manager configures, monitors, and manages Hitachi replication products for both open systems and mainframe environments. It builds on existing Hitachi technology by leveraging the powerful replication capabilities of storage systems and combining robust reporting, mirroring and features previously available in separate offerings. Replication Manager decreases management complexity while increasing staff productivity and providing greater control than previously available solutions through a single, consistent user interface that provides an intuitive GUI manages system, site, region or global replication storage solutions.

With Hitachi Replication Manager, replication is no longer restricted to experienced storage administrators. This powerful tool can simplify the management of the replication infrastructure and help achieve Recovery Time and Recovery Point Objectives (RTO and RPO) to improve administrative efficiency.

Hitachi Data Protection Suite: Centralized, Unified Data Protection

Hitachi Data Protection Suite: Centralized, Unified Data ProtectionThe Hitachi Data Protection Suite is a unified solution delivering high-performance data backup, granular data recovery, advanced storage management, intelligent migration, classification and replication — all under a single pane of glass, accessible over the Web. It lowers total cost of ownership by reducing administrative time and effort, while increasing capacity utilization compared to point solutions. Regardless of the data or the application, the Hitachi Data Protection Suite provides a single and consistent way to manage it.

A Blueprint for Business Resilience and Operational Efficiency

A Blueprint for Business Resilience and Operational EfficiencyIn today’s always on business world, fast and continuous access to applications and data is essential for success. As a result, business continuity has become an integral part of the business and IT lexicon—and an increasingly larger portion of the IT budget.

Although large scale disasters are foremost in most people’s minds when it comes to business continuity, application failures, system malfunctions, hacker attacks, and human error are far more likely to interrupt operations. In addition, corporate scandals and concerns over privacy have led to regulations governing secure data retention and protection.

For Hitachi Data Systems, business continuity means first understanding your key business challenges and requirements, including risk exposure, regulatory compliance, and best practices. Then, it calls for providing solutions designed to protect organizations against loss of access to data while increasing business resilience and operational efficiency.
