Innovations Bring Best-In-Class Search, Consolidation and Archive to the Hitachi File and Object-based Storage Portfolio

On March 4, Hitachi Data Systems delivered on its promise to enable Services Oriented Storage Solutions for integrated search and index across the boundaries of siloed file storages, simplified consolidation and archive of file- and object-based applications. A series of product announcements, including the release of the new Hitachi Data Discovery Suite, Hitachi Essential NAS Platform™, the next generation Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform, powered by BlueArc®, as well as enhancements to the Hitachi Content Archive Platform, signal significant breakthroughs in file services and strengthen Hitachi Data Systems storage market leadership.
The Hitachi file/object-based storage portfolio accomplishes three major goals. It enables search and index of unmanaged data across the boundaries of network attached storage and content archiving to mitigate compliances risks; reduces cost through consolidation for large and small environments alike and ensures consistent quality of service with intelligent platforms.

Data Management

Storage administrators will appreciate the new, simplified Hitachi approach to data management. A single query can now search and index across Hitachi NAS Platforms and the Hitachi Content Archive Platform. A single software management tool, the HiCommand® suite, can manage NAS and SAN environments. And policy—based data movement is possible across storage tiers. Hitachi now delivers common search, retention, movement and protection of data—extending its proven capabilities in block storage data management to file services within an integrated services oriented platform.

Consolidation

Our breakthrough file and content services lower customers’ total cost of ownership through file server or NAS consolidation. The Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform 3000 offers superior performance and scalability for massive scale consolidation, while the new cost effective Hitachi Essential NAS Platform works on a smaller scale for file server consolidation as well as centralized file sharing and backup.

Consistent Quality of Service

These new innovations ensure a consistent quality of service with intelligent platforms. Not only do they offer proven enterprise availability, reliability and performance; they allow administrators to leverage that performance to enable more intelligence for file virtualization, management and protection. And the Hitachi Content Archive Platform 2.4 upgrade offers enhanced security to meet the searchability and compliance needs of today’s enterprise.

Hitachi Data Discovery Suite: A Centralized View into Enterprise Content

The Hitachi Data Discovery Suite is an industry first that breaks through the traditional barriers of stovepipe storage infrastructures and mitigates the risk of unmanaged or rogue data. Now it’s easy to find content across multiple data stores, while maintaining the appropriate security and access privileges to keep data safe. It provides a single, centralized view that enables integrated access to enterprise content and facilitates e—discovery and litigation readiness. It also increases user productivity, while reducing the time and costs incurred from compliance and litigation.

Hitachi Essential NAS Platform and Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform: A NAS Solution to Fit Any Performance Requirement

The Hitachi Essential NAS Platform and Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform, powered by BlueArc® form the two other essential building blocks of the file/object-based storage infrastructure. The Hitachi Essential NAS Platform can handle moderate throughput file I/Os and is suited standard applications like file sharing and backup. The Hitachi High-performance NAS Platform can fulfill the most demanding performance requirements for the most demanding applications that require low latencies and high throughput.

Hitachi Content Archive Platform: High-performance, Long Term Content Retention

The enhanced Hitachi Content Archive Platform is an integral component of the Hitachi Services Oriented Storage Solutions strategy and features new authentication services to ensure the secure, long—term preservation and retrieval of valuable information. The new features and flexibility of the Hitachi Content Archive Platform deliver the speed, authentication, security and scalability organizations need to manage constant change and prepare for a future of unhindered data expansion.
