Hitachi Positioned in "Leaders" Quadrant for Midrange Enterprise Disk Arrays

Hitachi Data Systems Offers Industry Leading Value for Customers seeking Midrange Solutions

SANTA CLARA, Calif., February 12, 2008 — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the "Leaders" quadrant in the, "Magic Quadrant for Midrange Enterprise Disk Arrays, 2H07"¹ report.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant evaluates vendors for their ability to execute and completeness of vision. According to Gartner, vendors positioned in the "Leaders" quadrant have "the market share, credibility, and marketing and sales capabilities needed to drive the acceptance of new technologies. It demonstrates understanding of market needs, is an innovator and thought leader, and has well-articulated plans that customers and prospects can use when designing their storage infrastructures and strategies."

Hitachi Data Systems’ midrange storage line-up offers industry-leading performance and value—delivering many enterprise-class storage services such as RAID-6, Logical Cache Partitioning, Host Storage Domains, Virtual Ports, Power Savings Storage, Role-Based Security Access and many other capabilities that other midrange systems do not offer. The highly scalable and versatile Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage and Workgroup Modular Storage lines (models AMS1000, AMS500, AMS200, and WMS100) deliver multi-protocol connectivity throughout the entire midrange product portfolio.

"By continuing to extend Hitachi’s innovative high-end storage services to our line-up of midrange storage products, we are giving our customers unparalleled value such as greater flexibility, cost containment and the scalable performance required for critical data and applications," said Brenda Peffer, vice president, Global Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. "We are very pleased to be recognized by Gartner in the leaders quadrant. Our AMS and WMS solutions are rapidly gaining traction in the very competitive midrange storage space due to the exceptional value that only Hitachi can provide."

As an integral component to Hitachi’s Services Oriented Storage Solutions strategy, the Hitachi AMS and WMS midrange storage systems complement the Universal Storage Platform™ V and the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform VM as tiered or archive storage, especially when configured with SATA disk for lower costs. Utilizing the external virtualization services of the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V series, customers can incorporate midrange Hitachi AMS and WMS systems, integrated under the same storage management umbrella, and benefit from the same common storage services. This is yet another example of Hitachi delivering unmatched cost-effectiveness and scalability to customers.
