Carestream Health and Hitachi Data Systems Enable Healthcare Organizations to Efficiently Manage Important Clinical Data

Companies to Offer Innovative Solution to Efficiently Store, Protect and Access Clinically Relevant Information from Multiple Healthcare Systems

ROCHESTER, N.Y. and SANTA CLARA, CA —May 29, 2007—Carestream Health, Inc., and Hitachi Data Systems have entered into an agreement to co-market a powerful data management solution that will enable healthcare organizations to efficiently archive clinically relevant information from multiple systems in their facilities.

The solution combines Carestream Health's Versatile Intelligent Patient Archive (VIParchive) and the newly enhanced Hitachi Content Archive Platform (see separate press release announced today) in a single footprint that is easy to install, administer and support. Carestream Health's VIParchive is a software platform that can take clinical information from multiple healthcare sources and consolidate this information in an intelligent archive. VIParchive is a proven, scalable software solution that can benefit small hospitals and imaging centers, as well as large medical centers and huge regional healthcare systems.

The Hitachi Content Archive Platform is an active archive solution that allows organizations to satisfy regulatory and corporate governance mandates and provides rapid access to archived data when needed. The solution delivers automated policy management to ensure content authenticity, retention, and integrity while also supporting advanced discovery capabilities through integrated indexing, search and retrieval features.

The amount of new healthcare-related information being created, distributed, and stored digitally-which must also be readily accessible-continues to grow dramatically around the world. Carestream Health's healthcare IT solutions are ideal for helping organizations deal with the burgeoning growth of patient information and VIParchive can easily be integrated with existing storage area network or network-attached storage systems. Hitachi Content Archive Platform delivers a powerful active archive solution designed to meet this growth and address the corporate need to preserve, protect and access patient information well into the future.

"The growth in storage is faster in healthcare than any other vertical market, yet the infrastructure maturity in these organizations is believed to be some three to five years behind the industry average," said Jack Domme, chief operating officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "Working with Carestream Health, we are helping companies meet the data access and performance challenges which can directly impact the quality of patient care."

Michael W. Jackman, President, Healthcare Information Solutions, Carestream Health added, "Carestream's relationship with Hitachi Data Systems will enable our customers to realize the significant benefits of our innovative CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions portfolio, combined with Hitachi's proven best-in-class storage platforms."
