Michael Väth to Lead Business; Execute Strategy to Grow Revenue and Marketshare
SANTA CLARA, Calif.—June 9, 2005—Hitachi Data Systems, provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions™ solutions and wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE: HIT), today announced the appointment of Michael Väth as senior vice president and general manager for Hitachi Data Systems Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Reporting to Michael will be the EMEA country managers, as well as the heads of other key functions, including marketing, finance, and operations.
Michael Väth brings more than 20 years of sales and management experience in the information technology sector, with more than 7 years specifically in the storage market. Michael will based in Frankfurt, Germany, and report to Scott Genereux, executive vice president and general manager of Worldwide Sales, Channels and Support at Hitachi Data Systems.
"Michael's recent experience was with StorageTek, NCR, Olivetti, and Bull, where he received rapid promotions and met substantial revenue and profit targets," said Mr. Genereux. "He is a dynamic leader who is a problem solver and results-focused and has developed strong and successful international teams. Michael will bring fresh ideas and new insights to our business."

Michael started with StorageTek as Central Region General Manager (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria) and was promoted after only one year to Vice President and General Manager of StorageTek, Europe, Africa and Middle East, where he led 1,500 employees in 14 subsidiary operations as well as a line-up of distributors. He strengthened the go-to-market model by developing a strong indirect channel to complement the direct business. He doubled profitability, significantly improved services and solutions revenue, introduced solid processes and signed-up the largest multi-million dollar services customer contract in the company's history. Michael received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Applied Sciences, Würzburg-Schweinfurt. He was founding and board member of BITKOM, the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunication, and Media.
