FileNet and Hitachi Data Systems Deliver Joint ECM and Data Retention Solution

Integrated Solution Designed to Protect Sensitive Information, Manage Email and Help Ensure Regulatory Compliance

AIIM ON DEMAND CONFERENCE AND EXPO,
PHILADEPHIA, Pa - May 18, 2005 -
FileNet Corporation (Nasdaq: FILE), the leading provider of Enterprise Content and Business Process Management solutions and Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions™ solutions and wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced an integrated solution designed to help customers preserve and protect sensitive enterprise information. This solution, based on Hitachi industry-leading storage systems, integrates Hitachi Data Retention Utility software with the FileNet P8 Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform release 3.5.

FileNet P8 enables companies to make better decisions faster by uniquely addressing their content and process needs, including managing content in and outside of FileNet repositories from a central, federated catalog. Together, FileNet and Hitachi Data Systems will provide solutions that include integration of FileNet's Content Manager, Email Manager, Records Manager and Image Manager with the Hitachi Data Retention Utility software. The Data Retention Utility provides Write-Once Read-Many (WORM) functionality for disk media across all tiers of Hitachi storage.

This combination plus Hitachi Data Systems recently announced HiCommand® Tiered Storage Manager provides an enabling infrastructure to effectively manage information as enterprise content management and information lifecycle management technologies continue to converge.

HiCommand Tiered Storage Manager builds upon the large-scale virtualization capabilities of the Hitachi TagmaStore™ Universal Storage Platform and is the first software product to help users define and dynamically move data across multi-dimensional tiers of storage without disruption to the application itself.

The new joint FileNet-Hitachi Data Systems solution will help customers manage and store very large volumes of documents, including critical email and other business records on Hitachi's high performance storage area network (SAN)-based storage subsystems. In addition, this solution can address corporate governance and regulatory compliance directives including Sarbanes Oxley, SEC 17a-4, and HIPAA, which mandate specific document retention periods, immutability and the establishment and proof of required document control and management processes.

"Enterprise Content Management and high performance storage infrastructure solutions are a natural complement when it comes to helping customers meet the challenges of managing information," said Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer, FileNet Corporation. "We believe this joint solution offers tremendous synergy between the two companies' technologies, offering opportunities to enhance our respective capabilities and address compliance of regulatory initiatives and management of the information lifecycle in order to deliver greater customer benefits."

FileNet's support of Data Retention Utility further extends the company's long-established support of Hitachi storage products and solutions. With a shared installed base of more than a hundred of the Fortune 2000 customers in today's key industries including financial services, government, telecommunications, utilities and manufacturing, the Data Retention Utility support effort has already galvanized increased activity between FileNet and Hitachi Data Systems growing Enterprise Content Archival solution sales and marketing group. The joint FileNet-Hitachi Data Systems solution is targeted for customer availability in Q3 of 2005.

"Working with FileNet will enable Hitachi Data Systems to take another step toward delivering the most comprehensive and integrated portfolio of Services Oriented Storage Solutions solutions," said Scott Genereux, executive vice president and general manager of Worldwide Sales, Channels and Support at Hitachi Data Systems. "The combination of Hitachi storage systems and software with FileNet's industry-leading ECM solutions enable our customers to archive data while managing costs and ensuring regulatory compliance. Working together, we can deliver a strong value proposition to our mutual customers by offering a range of cost effective storage solutions that precisely match application requirements."
