Hitachi Data Systems Wins MVP Award

Storage Networking End Users Acknowledge Industry Leader

Santa Clara, California. July 7, 2004—Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced it is a recipient of the Most Valuable Product (MVP) Award in the category of Disk Subsystems for the Hitachi Data Systems Lightning 9900™ V Series family of enterprise storage systems. The MVP Awards, co-sponsored by the Association of Storage Networking Professionals (ASNP) and InfoStor Magazine, is the only industry program in which award winners are selected by storage networking end users. The MVP Awards were presented during a ceremony at last week's Storage World Conference, the storage industry's most comprehensive educational event and tradeshow.

"The MVP Awards are a true representation of the best products in the industry as winners are selected by the people who know best—end users who manage storage on a daily basis," said Daniel Delshad, chairman of the Storage World Conference. "We congratulate Hitachi Data Systems for winning this award."

In its second year, the MVP Awards has six categories: Backup Hardware; Data Protection Software; Disk Subsystems; Network Equipment; Management Software; and Compliance and Retention. Over 250 technology solutions were submitted for consideration. A team of industry analysts narrowed down the number of entries to five finalists in each category. Once those were established, the organizers solicited the 1,500 ASNP members and the nearly 23,000 InfoStor Magazine subscribers to vote. Of those solicited, only end users were allowed to participate, and any votes from outside this group were disqualified.

"We make it our business to reduce the total cost of ownership and accelerate return on investment for our customers, so we are happy to have been acknowledged by this extensive group of storage end users with this award." said Hu Yoshida, vice president and chief technology officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "Our drive to bring innovative technology to market is the key reason why we are the fastest growing storage solution management vendor."
