Live solution demonstrations will also feature integrated technology from Hitachi Data Systems partners
STOKE POGES, BUCKS, UK — 16 February, 2004 —Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), will be showcasing nine of its market-leading enterprise storage solutions at the CeBIT 2004 exhibition in Hanover, Germany, from 18th to 24th March.
Demonstrated in live Windows and Linux environments, these solutions are grouped around three company initiatives designed to address pressing business issues facing senior IT and business leaders:
"Companies across Europe are investing for profitable growth. They want storage solutions that will simultaneously support future expansion and lower operational cost. There is also a need to solve specific business issues, such as transparent corporate governance. We are using CeBIT 2004 to show that Hitachi Data Systems has the software, services, hardware and industry partnerships to satisfy the mix of requirements that European organisations are facing," says John Taffinder, Executive Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Hitachi Data Systems.
Several of the solutions being presented by Hitachi Data Systems will also include technology from strategic partners such as AppIQ, Assistra, CNT, CommVault, IXOS, MaxData, McData and Morse.
Storage Area Management
Hitachi Data Systems HiCommand® Storage Area Management (SAM) Suite demonstrates consistent quality of service (QoS) and inventory and chargeback features for multi-vendor storage area networks (SANs). These features address the challenges faced by many organisations in managing a patchwork of multi-vendor point solutions. The ability to maintain and manage the entire storage area network from a single and consistent application delivers significant operational savings, in terms of both capital and labour. This solution integrates HiCommand software with software modules from AppIQ.
Data Lifecycle Management
Another key demonstration is Hitachi Data Systems' new enterprise Message Archiving for E-mail solution. With ever-increasing volumes of corporate e-mail and a raft of new corporate accountability legislation, such as Basel II and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, managing, storing and retaining e-mail data in a secure and unchangeable form has become a critical boardroom issue. This solution brings together sheer data storage power from Hitachi Data Systems and sophisticated e-mail management software from its partner, IXOS Software AG. With an integrated `data lifecycle management' approach to this issue, Hitachi Data Systems ensures that the way data is managed and stored reflects the current value and application of the data.
For organisations that need to transfer their data from Windows NT 4.0 and Exchange 5.5 to Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 platforms, Hitachi Data Systems will be demonstrating its Microsoft-recommended Mail Migration Solution. Developed in partnership with MaxData, this compact SAN solution enables large and medium-sized organisations to migrate their data smoothly. The solution also facilitates easier storage management for organisations facing growing e-mail volumes and increasing performance demands.
Business Continuity
Visitors will also be able to see Hitachi Data Systems business continuity solutions at work, through a demonstration of highly available Microsoft applications. System downtime remains a primary concern for most IT directors, with disruptions estimated to cost up to $250,000 per minute for some organisations. This integrated solution features Microsoft Cluster Server and Windows Server 2003 Majority Node Set, together with Hitachi TrueCopy software, connecting two remote and discrete SANs. Using the Hitachi storage cluster concept, the solution addresses the need for round-the-clock system availability and access to mission-critical information.
Also on display will be a Real Application Cluster (RAC) solution for Oracle 9i databases, providing much higher availability, scalability and cost efficiency than traditional cluster concepts. A cluster of three (more can be added) database servers will be integrated to a single storage area network based on a Hitachi Lightning 9900™ V Series storage system. This solution will be presented in partnership with Morse.
