Hitachi Data Systems Rolls Out New Interoperability Program

Enables Emerging Companies to Test Products forInteroperability with Hitachi Freedom Storage Systems

SANTA CLARA, California June 5, 2003 Hitachi DataSystems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT),today announced the Interoperability Demonstration Program which isdesigned to give vendors an approved method to demonstrateinteroperability with Hitachi Freedom Storage systems. Using anindependent testing lab, selected companies can now test theirproducts to demonstrate interoperability giving customers a measureof confidence that their products will be compatible.

"This program respondsto customer demand for interoperable products. We are excited toprovide an opportunity for vendors to demonstrate that theirproducts interoperate with ours through an organized test processin a lab environment."

Testing is conducted at an Independent Testing Lab (ITL) whereselected storage vendors can test their products for compatibilitywith the Hitachi Freedom Lightning 9900, Lightning 9900 V Series,and the Thunder 9500™ V Series systems, as well as HitachiFreedom Storage Software products. After successful completion ofinteroperability testing is verified in the ITL, the product isthen listed as having "Demonstrated Interoperability" on theHitachi Data Systems website.
