HiCommand Device Manager a Key Component in SNIACIM-SAN-2, the World's Largest Storage Management InteroperabilityDemo
STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD— Phoenix, Arizona (Booth # P3)— April 14, 2003— Continuing todemonstrate its commitment to openness and standards, storageindustry leader Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary ofHitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced its participation in theStorage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA) second annualinteroperability demonstration at Storage Networking World. Byproviding products compatible with the SNIA Storage ManagementInitiative Specification (SMI-S), Hitachi Data Systems isaddressing storage customers' needs to lower total cost ofownership through heterogeneous storage management. The SMI-S isbased on the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web-BasedEnterprise Management (WBEM).

Hitachi Data Systems is actively working to leverage the SMI-Sto enhance the HiCommand® Management Framework, an open,interoperable approach to storage management based on industrystandards. The SNIA CIM-SAN-2 demonstration brings storageinteroperability out of the testing lab and into the real world.The demo will show how the SMI-S can be used to manage most of thedaily tasks faced by IT personnel managing heterogeneous storage.In addition to working toward interoperability for Hitachi FreedomStorage™ systems and Hitachi storage management software,Hitachi Data Systems is assisting other storage vendors inadvancing their SMI-S support by providing a stable SMI-S interfacefrom which to test their products.

Hitachi Data Systems is introducing the first HiCommand CIMclient capable of mining information from multiple array resources,such as the HiCommand Device Manager Server and others in theCIM-SAN 2 demo. The demonstration will showcase two key HitachiData Systems components. The first component is extended supportfor the SMI-S Version 1.0 in the HiCommand Device Manager's serverinterface. Newly supported SMI-S features include LUNconfiguration, LUN Mapping and LUN Masking. The second keycomponent is the extension of the HiCommand Device Manager userinterface to support management of any SMI-S compliant storagearray. This provides unified management (a single pane of glass) oftruly heterogeneous storage from within HiCommand DeviceManager.
The demonstration will take place in the SNIA InteroperabilityLab at the Storage Networking World conference in Phoenix, Arizonafrom April 15-16.
