Steve Smith to Discuss Disaster Recovery Solutions forthe Broadcasting Industry; Don McNicoll to Participate in Panel onStorage Industry Standards
SANTA CLARA, California— April 3, 2003— Hitachi DataSystems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT),and the leader in enterprise storage today announced that twoexecutives will speak at the upcoming National Association ofBroadcasters (NAB) conference in Las Vegas. Steve Smith, productmanager for Business Continuity Solutions, will speak on DisasterRecovery, and Don McNicoll, Senior Director, TrueNorth™Project will discuss industry standards for storage management.
Smith will deliver his presentation, entitled "Disaster RecoveryPlanning — It's No Longer an Option" on Thursday, April 10 at10:00 am PT. He will discuss the planning process for disasterrecovery solutions and will present an overview of the variousmethods for data protection via remote data replication includingtheir benefits and risks. The presentation is part of the NAB SANPavilion featuring Network Storage and Security in booth #C4162 ofthe exhibit floor.
Steve Smith is currently product manager for Business ContinuitySolutions at Hitachi Data Systems. Business Continuity Solutionsincludes data replication, backup/recovery and failover productsand services. Previously, Smith held positions in mainframe andopen systems high availability consulting services and productmanagement and product planning for servers, storage, and storagenetworking products at Amdahl/Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard, and NishanSystems.
Don McNicoll, Senior Director, TrueNorth Project, willparticipate on a panel entitled "How and When Will StandardsSimplify Storage Management" on Tuesday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. PT.The panel will discuss how storage standards will help to developproducts that can manage the extensive amount of data generated byvast graphics and the migration of video files todigital in the entertainment industry. Don will provide insightinto Hitachi Data Systems development of storage managementproducts adhering to standards developed through the StorageNetworking Industry Association (SNIA.)
McNicoll is a 30-year veteran of the IT industry, withexperience in a number of technical and managerial roles. He joinedHitachi Data Systems in 1996 to focus on merging open systemsstorage into the company's mainstream business. His latestchallenge is evangelizing the TrueNorth vision and strategy, withan emphasis on open standards, policy-based automation and workflownecessary to achieve a meaningful level of trusted storagemanagement automation. Don is a member of the Hitachi Data Systemsteam working in SNIA.
