Hitachi Data Systems Showcases IP Storage and Open StandardsManagement Framework

Hitachi Data Systems on Hitachi Ltd stand, Hall 1, Stand 7F12

Stokes Poges, 20 January 2003 —

Hitachi Data Systems will demonstrate its most innovative enterprise and modular storage products in live `real world' environments at CeBIT 2003. Located on the Hitachi Ltd stand (Hall 1, stand 7F12), Hitachi Data Systems will be demonstrating five key solutions:

  • HiCommand™ Management Framework
  • MS Cluster
  • SplitSecond™ Recovery
  • Nishan Disaster Recovery
  • CommVault® Backup
HiCommand Management Framework

Demonstration: In line with its TrueNorth initiative, Hitachi Data Systems will be demonstrating its commitment to open standards with CIM compliant HiCommand software. As part of this demonstration, Hitachi Data Systems is running an IP link to the Sun Microsystems stand. This enables the remote management, through HiCommand, of Hitachi Freedom Storage systems and Sun Storedge T3 arrays on the Sun stand, and vice versa.

Benefits: One of the biggest costs in today's IT environment is management software. Hitachi Data Systems' HiCommand offers full management of all Hitachi storage and Sun Storedge T3 arrays from a single centralised console for both large and mid-sized organisations. This allows consistent and simplified storage management across a multi-vendor environment, giving significant operational efficiencies and allowing considerable management savings.

MS Cluster Solution

Demonstration: A Microsoft cluster attached to a Hitachi Freedom Storage Thunder 9570V system, from the new modular Thunder 9500™ V Series. Software ensuring high availability and disaster recovery includes Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager™ (HDLM) and TrueCopy™.

Benefits: Demonstrates business availability and therefore cost saving in the event of a disaster. Enables onsite and remote high availability through simplified management and easy disaster recovery for mid-sized organisations. Includes a demonstration of the Thunder 9570V's 128 virtual ports for improved networking.

SplitSecond Recovery

Demonstration: Hitachi SplitSecond™ and ShadowImage™ for instantaneous recovery of data from applications.

Benefits: Eliminates overheads of data access by fast information replication, for backup or data snapshots for testing — without disrupting operations or overall performance levels

Nishan Disaster Recovery

Demonstration: IP-based distance mirroring using Hitachi Freedom Storage Lightning 9970V and 9980V, connected via two Nishan IP 4300 and 3300 channel extenders, and asynchronous Hitachi TrueCopy software.

Benefits: In implementing a multi-site disaster recovery scenario, one of the biggest costs is the connection between sites. Asynchronous data transfer (where the application is able to continue working without waiting for the data to be transferred to the new location) offers a fast and cost-effective way to transport data long distances, ensuring business data is immediately recoverable. By covering such vast distances it gives significantly more protection than `nearby' off-site disaster recovery.

CommVault Backup Solution

Demonstration: CommVault Galaxy™ backup and recovery software, integrated with a Hitachi Freedom Storage Lightning 9970V and StorageTek™ 9840 tape drive. Also includes an optional Network Appliance NAS NDMP backup.

Benefits: Demonstrates efficient, easy-to-use and cost-effective backup/restore of business data through optimised Microsoft Exchange backup, from full backup to fast restore and quick recovery such as single emails and contacts.

In addition to the demonstrations from Hitachi Data Systems, the Hitachi stand will showcase its range of innovative storage, delivery and interface solutions, which support today's information society. Presented by other Hitachi companies, these include next-generation display and digital technologies for home and business users, print on demand solutions and a ubiquitous service-rich routing platform. Visitors will also be able to see Hitachi's new mobile hard disk drive innovations for the desktop, server and mobile markets, as well as a range of intelligent system technologies designed to meet the needs of e-government and next-generation business environments.
