STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD, ORLANDO, Florida — October 28, 2002 — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE: HIT) today announced that two of its executives have been elected to fill key roles in the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) and the Storage Networking Association (SNIA).
Vincent Franceschini, senior director of Future Technologies at Hitachi Data Systems, has been elected vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the SNIA. Franceschini has been a serving board member of the SNIA since 2000, notably leading the international expansion of the SNIA and contributing to the ground-breaking SNIA Storage Management Initiative (SMI) program delivering storage management standards, education and services that will propel storage networking solutions into the broader worldwide market. In collaboration with the SNIA's chairman and the board of directors, Franceschini's primary mission will be to define and conduct the SNIA's strategy to accelerate the development and the adoption of essential storage networking technologies, such as those included in the SMI program that Hitachi Data Systems fully supports.
Franceschini brings over 13 years experience in IT architectures and storage networking technologies and over four years in Industry Association initiative management. Reporting to Hitachi Data Systems' CTO, he is currently responsible for positioning strategic technology elements within Hitachi Data Systems storage and data networking solutions roadmaps.
Arthur Edmonds, senior director of data networking technologies at Hitachi Data Systems, has been appointed to the FCIA Board of Directors. Edmonds' first assignment as an acting board member will be to chair the SANmark Marketing Committee. The SANmark Qualified Program is a product branding program sponsored, operated, and promoted as an open industry conformance suite by the FCIA that qualifies companies to use the SANmark trademarked logo on their products. He will also be an active participant in the networking security and storage management activities of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) T11 Technical Committee.
Edmonds brings over 20 years experience in network management and security to the FCIA. His current duties at Hitachi Data Systems include extending data storage and acquisition over secure networks using Fibre Channel technology and the Internet, and Storage Area Management.
