Tight Integration with Hitachi Freedom Storage Systems
Promises Enterprise Customers Unmatched Data Availability, Lower TCO and
Greater Return on Investment
STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD — ORLANDO, Florida — October 28, 2002 — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), and CommVault® Systems, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise data management solutions, have signed a worldwide distribution and support agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Hitachi Data Systems will resell and support CommVault data management software to Microsoft® Windows®, Linux®, and UNIX® enterprise customers through direct and indirect channels.
Starting today, Hitachi Data Systems will begin reselling CommVault® Galaxy™, backup and recovery software. Through seamless integration with Hitachi Freedom Storage™ systems, enterprise customers can be armed with dynamic data and storage management solutions that deliver snapshot-assisted backup, snapshot management and rapid data movement within a SAN — key ingredients that ensure unmatched data availability, lower TCO and greater ROI.
"We look forward to the enhanced technology integration that will result from the Hitachi Data Systems and CommVault relationship," said Martin Morrison, Business Systems Manager, Practitioner Services, Common Services Agency for NHS Scotland. "We currently use the combined solution of CommVault Galaxy and the Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ Series system for all our enterprise data protection requirements. We are most impressed by Galaxy's ability to seamlessly initiate Hitachi ShadowImage™, index the data copies and make them available for simple, transparent retrieval. This has enabled us to build a server-free backup and recovery solution for our Sun Solaris/Oracle OLTP applications, a necessity in keeping our data available in our critical operating environment."
By implementing joint Hitachi Data Systems and CommVault solutions, customers can keep critical data highly available and simply manage and protect applications and data on heterogeneous Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms from a unified browser interface. Through policy management, they can seamlessly automate backup, recovery, migration, snapshot management and media management across all topologies and operating systems — resulting in substantial productivity gains and cost savings.
Currently, CommVault Galaxy software is pre-tested and certified on Hitachi Freedom Storage systems in SAN infrastructures. This winning combination for Windows, Linux, and UNIX environments offers customers an easy-to-use, global data protection solution that scales to handle multiple terabytes of capacity. The resulting efficiency dramatically reduces storage administration cost, enhances access to application data and improves backup and recovery flexibility.
"Through this worldwide reseller and support agreement with CommVault, Hitachi Data Systems is strengthening its industry-leading position in the SAN market by providing customers with proven storage management options," said Steve East, vice president, Storage Integration, Hitachi Data Systems. "We are clearly demonstrating our commitment to the Hitachi TrueNorth™ promise — to deliver best-of-breed products with partners like CommVault, and provide customers optimal solutions to manage their storage infrastructures while leveraging our high-performance storage systems."
"Today's agreement with Hitachi Data Systems marks a major step forward in CommVault's ascendance in the enterprise storage marketplace," said Bob Hammer, CommVault's president, chairman and CEO. "Working closely with Hitachi Data Systems broadens CommVault's reach significantly to customers and thousands of resellers worldwide. We anticipate a continued relationship that can provide simplified storage management and enhanced data protection for our mutual customers implementing CommVault Galaxy on the QiNetix platform. "
Earlier this month, CommVault announced its QiNetix™ platform for unified enterprise data management, incorporating Galaxy software and engineered to extend CommVault's leadership in data protection into new solutions for UNIX and Windows-based data migration, archiving, device and resource management.
