CNT UltraNet Edge Storage Router Certified For Hitachi TrueCopy™ Solutions to Lower Storage Cost and Enhance Business Continuity Applications over Long Distances
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota and SANTA CLARA, California, October 8, 2002 — CNT® (Nasdaq: CMNT), the global specialist in storage networking, and Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced that CNT's UltraNet® Edge Storage Router and UltraNet Storage Director will now be available worldwide through Hitachi Data Systems. In addition, CNT UltraNet Storage Router has successfully completed qualification with Hitachi TrueCopy software. UltraNet Storage Director is already certified for Hitachi TrueCopy, Hitachi Extended Remote Copy (HXRC) and NanoCopy™
The agreement demonstrates Hitachi Data Systems' commitment to the Hitachi Freedom Data Networks™ strategy for providing customers with open solutions for building storage networks, and gives the company the ability to offer a complete solution that allows Hitachi TrueCopy customers to move information over long distances using lower cost IP networks. The collaboration also includes a formal joint agreement to provide the highest level of support for Hitachi Data Systems customers.
Using Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP), CNT's UltraNet Edge Storage Router and UltraNet Storage Director with Hitachi TrueCopy, HXRC, or NanoCopy extends business continuity and disaster recovery applications for CNT and Hitachi Data Systems customers. The use of IP networks enables companies to share and replicate data over hundreds or thousands of miles, without the additional costs of private networks. Storage architects now have the option of designing storage networks using IP as a primary or secondary transport backbone, allowing companies to leverage their IP network infrastructure and management expertise to cost-effectively deploy new storage replication architectures.
The CNT and Hitachi Data Systems solution can provide a reduction of up to 90% in the cost of implementing an asynchronous replication system, by lowering bandwidth and line costs and allowing most customers to use their current IP network infrastructure. Combined with the Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ V Series systems, CNT's UltraNet Edge Storage Router and UltraNet Storage Director with Hitachi TrueCopy deliver a powerful solution for asynchronous remote copy with the flexibility and economy of IP networks.
"Together, CNT and Hitachi Data Systems offer a full line of communication networks, bandwidth, distance and availability options to best meet companies' storage requirements," said Mark Knittel, vice president, worldwide product operations, CNT. "We are committed to maintaining interoperability standards, and we are excited to add Hitachi Data Systems to the growing list of enterprise storage vendors that have certified our UltraNet Edge Storage Router for IP storage networking. Whether a customer requires mirroring within a metropolitan area, across the state or across the ocean, CNT and Hitachi Data Systems can provide a flexible, high performance solution to meet customer needs."
"Data protection and integrity are vital to today's enterprise IT organizations. FCIP is an ideal technology for providing high-performance asynchronous data replication that customers can deploy immediately in their existing IP network infrastructures," said Scott Genereux, vice president of global marketing and business development, Hitachi Data Systems. "The combination of CNT's UltraNet Edge Storage Router and UltraNet Storage Director with the stellar performance of Hitachi TrueCopy will help our customers to better protect their valuable data, while making it possible to easily and efficiently distribute data across a global enterprise."
The CNT UltraNet Edge Storage Router is a compact, intelligent, user-friendly storage networking platform, which allows customers to leverage their IP infrastructures and Fibre Channel investments to interconnect "SAN islands" for the creation of enterprise-wide storage networks. In addition, it is the first Brocade Fabric Aware certified IP storage solution available on the market today. The UltraNet Edge Storage Router leverages CNT's unique IP Storage Architecture — core software technology embedded in the company's UltraNet hardware products that helps organizations take advantage of high-capacity data storage from within the open IP networking environments prevalent in today's enterprise-class businesses.
Hitachi TrueCopy replicates information locally between Lightning 9900 V Series storage systems within one data center, or to remote models in regional centers, with minimum impact on performance. Not only does Hitachi TrueCopy safeguard critical data, it also eliminates the time and complexities of multi-step, manual tape recovery procedures. Improved risk management processes dramatically reduce recovery time and offer unbeatable protection to a company's most valuable asset-information.
