Combination of Hitachi TrueCopy Software and INRANGE Storage
Networking Technology Enables Customers to Leverage Existing IP Networks
for Business Continuity and to Interconnect SANs
SANTA CLARA, California and LUMBERTON, NJ — September 17, 2002 — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and Inrange Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: INRG), the world leader in high-end scalable storage networking solutions, today jointly announced the successful completion of qualification testing between the INRANGE® IN-VSN™ 9801 Channel Extender and Hitachi TrueCopy™, the industry-leading software for remote replication of mission-critical information for Fibre Channel over Internet Protocol (IP) environments. Customers can now benefit from a highly available IP storage solution offering high performance, cost-effective, secure long-distance data transmission.
In order meet user requirements for 24x7 global data access, storage networks are increasingly spanning metro and wide area networks (WAN). As a result IT administrators are looking for ways to leverage existing IP networks, and to remove or minimize distance limitations between geographically dispersed sites. Together, INRANGE and Hitachi Data Systems enable customers in heterogeneous IT environments to extend their mission-critical information using Fibre Channel over IP storage network infrastructure, ensuring the safety, integrity and availability of that data across multiple systems.
"INRANGE has been at the forefront of providing customers with valued options to leverage existing resources and bandwidth for cost-effective, high performance data replication over any distance," stated Dan Raup, INRANGE vice president of Product Marketing. "Large enterprises can now double and triple the amount of data that can be remotely protected just by tapping into unused IP capacity. Our reseller relationship with Hitachi Data Systems continues to offer customers greater flexibility and validates our commitment to bring customers the most advanced enterprise storage networking solutions."
In combination with Hitachi TrueCopy and Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ V series systems, the INRANGE 9801, which supports disk mirroring, allows the secure transmission of data to remote locations at distances of thousands of miles using Fibre Channel over IP. This fully qualified solution enables IT administrators to manage rapidly growing storage resources while offering seamless data replication for business continuity applications. The 9801 can support TrueCopy in both synchronous and asynchronous modes with T3, OC-3 and 10/100 IP network connectivity interfaces.
"The ability to manage, move and protect mission-critical enterprise data continues to be a key customer requirement as organizations look to centralize resources, interconnect data centers, and push out information enabling instantaneous information access," said Steve East, vice president, Storage Integration, Hitachi Data Systems. "The INRANGE-Hitachi Data Systems relationship provides value and offers customers a wide variety of choices for implementing networked storage while leveraging lower-cost IP solutions."
With the addition of IP-based storage solutions, INRANGE supports Hitachi Data Systems' full line of disk mirroring applications. By reselling the INRANGE 9801 with Hitachi TrueCopy and the industry-leading Lightning 9900 V Series systems, Hitachi Data Systems will enable enterprise customers to move information between data centers that are separated by a few feet or thousands of miles for disk mirroring, content distribution, or business continuity applications. The INRANGE 9800 series, Hitachi TrueCopy software, and Lightning 9900 V series storage systems are generally available.
Hitachi TrueCopy software ensures continuous access to information by replicating data locally within the customers' data center, or to remote Hitachi Freedom Storage systems, with minimum impact on performance. By providing vital recovery management capabilities that minimize the impact of downtime, TrueCopy safeguards critical data and eliminates the time and complexities of multi-step, manual tape recovery procedures. The improved risk management processes offered by Hitachi TrueCopy dramatically reduce recovery time and offer unbeatable data protection for enterprise storage customers.
This announcement represents the latest milestone in INRANGE's relationship with Hitachi Data Systems, which provides enterprises with easy to manage, interoperable, scalable storage networking solutions. Hitachi Data Systems resells and supports INRANGE's Virtual Storage Networking™ (IN-VSN) family of infrastructure products, including INRANGE's flagship product the IN-VSN FC/9000™ Fibre Channel Director, and INRANGE's traditional and SAN extenders. The 9800 series is an integral part of the IN-VSN strategy to provide heterogeneous storage networking solutions to extend data across the enterprise. By delivering advanced data compression and superior bandwidth utilization, the 9800 series enables customers to significantly reduce network costs, meet high availability demands, and lower total cost of ownership.
