Company Strongly Supports New Contribution from SNIA Members
for CIM-based SAN Management
SANTA CLARA, California, May 30, 2002 — Continuing to lead the industry for open standards-based storage management, Hitachi Data Systems, the world's fastest growing enterprise storage provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announces that it fully supports and endorses the Storage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA) acceptance of the "Bluefin" specification for evaluation. Hitachi, Ltd., is a founding supporter and technical contributor, along with 15 other SNIA members to this effort with the goal to provide customers with complete, open, interoperable storage networking solutions based on industry standards.
Leveraging the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) standards, the new technology provides customers with complete, open, interoperable storage networking solutions. Future management frameworks based on Bluefin will be capable of discovering and managing multi-vendor SAN resources through common interfaces.
"Hitachi Data Systems is working closely with the SNIA to identify significant milestones toward open, heterogeneous storage management that accelerate the adoption and implementation of CIM technology by the storage industry," said Marlene Woodworth, vice president and general manager, Global Marketing and Operations. "This new technology is consistent with Hitachi TrueNorth™ — our recently announced vision and strategy for open information management.
Hitachi Data Systems strongly believes that active industry participation in the development of the CIM Standard will be decisive in taking customers closer to realizing the tangible benefits of open, standards-based storage management."
Hitachi Data Systems is not only driving for support of open standards, but has revolutionized its Hitachi Freedom Storage™ systems and HiCommand™ software to provide customers with freedom of choice and enable them to take full advantage of cross-vendor, interoperable solutions.
