Customers
SANTA CLARA, California and LUMBERTON, New Jersey, April 17, 2002 — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and INRANGE Technologies (Nasdaq: INRG), the world leader in high-end scalable storage networking solutions, today jointly announced the availability of INRANGE IN-VSN™ 9811 storage networking systems for Hitachi TrueCopy, the industry-leading software for remote replication of mission-critical information. By reselling the INRANGE 9811 with Hitachi TrueCopy, Hitachi Data Systems will enable enterprise customers to move information between data centers that are separated by a few feet or thousands of miles for data mining, content distribution, or business continuity applications.
"With increasing awareness to safeguard mission-critical operational data in enterprise environments, companies are recognizing the need to distribute centralized data not only locally, but also across greater distances for disaster recovery and business continuance," said Carl Greiner, vice president and director, Enterprise Data Center Strategies, META Group. "Such offerings provided customers integrated solutions providing reliable access to their data with maximum choice and flexibility."
"With the convergence of IT organizations across multiple data centers, customers need to centralize resources and push out information enabling instantaneous information access and business continuity capabilities," said Steve East, vice president, Storage Integration, Hitachi Data Systems. "The INRANGE-Hitachi Data Systems relationship provides value and offers customers a wide variety of choices when it comes to managing, moving, and protecting business critical data."
Working in conjunction with Hitachi Data Systems, INRANGE enables customers in heterogeneous IT environments to extend their mission-critical information over wide area networks (WANs), ensuring the safety, integrity and availability of that data across multiple systems. Used in combination with Hitachi TrueCopy and Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ systems, INRANGE's 9811, which supports disk mirroring, allows data to be transmitted efficiently to remote locations at distances of thousands of miles.
"With the addition of the 9811, INRANGE supports Hitachi Data Systems' full line of disk mirroring applications, offering customers maximum choice and flexibility in moving data locally or remotely between geographically separated data centers," stated Dan Raup, INRANGE vice president of Product Marketing. "By implementing the 9811 as part of their storage infrastructure, customers benefit from an enterprise storage solution that reduces network costs and offers the highest levels of data integrity and availability."
Hitachi TrueCopy ensures continuous access to information by replicating data locally within the customers' data center, or to remote Hitachi Freedom Storage™ systems, with minimum impact on performance. By providing vital recovery management capabilities that minimize the impact of downtime, Hitachi TrueCopy safeguards critical data and eliminates the time and complexities of multi-step, manual tape recovery procedures. The improved risk management processes offered by Hitachi TrueCopy dramatically reduce recovery time and offer unbeatable data protection for enterprise storage customers.
Hitachi TrueCopy support is the latest milestone in INRANGE's relationship with Hitachi Data Systems, which provides enterprises with easy to manage, interoperable, scalable storage networking solutions. Hitachi Data Systems resells and supports INRANGE's Virtual Storage Networking™ (IN-VSN) family of infrastructure products, including INRANGE's flagship product the IN-VSN FC/9000™ Fibre Channel Director. The 9811 is an integral part of the IN-VSN strategy to provide heterogeneous storage networking solutions to extend data across the enterprise. By delivering advanced data compression and superior bandwidth utilization, the 9811 enables customers to significantly reduce network costs, meet high availability demands, and lower total cost of ownership.
