Hitachi Data Systems to Showcase Enterprise Storage Solutions in SNW Interoperability Lab

Hitachi Data Systems — Booth #G21

Storage Networking World, Palm Desert, California, April 3, 2002 — Hitachi Data Systems joins more than 45 storage networking vendors to showcase the largest demonstration of interoperable enterprise-wide storage networking solutions at the Spring 2002 Storage Networking World® (SNW) Conference and Expo, held April 2-5 in Palm Desert, California. This year's SNW Interoperability Lab, titled Find Your Storage Solution, is designed to give end users and storage integrators a first hand look at solution providers' products in software and hardware collaboration.

This multi-vendor Interoperability Lab is an eagerly anticipated and regularly scheduled highlight of the Storage Networking World conference. Hundreds of attendees toured the Fall 2001 SNW Interoperability Lab in Orlando, Florida last October. The lab is organized and sponsored by member companies of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Interoperability Committee.

Renewing last year's successful participation in the SNW Interoperability Lab, Hitachi Data Systems will demonstrate various business continuance solutions leveraging the Hitachi TrueCopy and Hitachi ShadowImage™ replication technologies over several networking technologies such as 2Gb/s Fibre Channel, DWDM and IP.

Hitachi Data Systems' demonstrations will also include Storage Resource Management solutions including the HiCommand™ storage management software suite and its integration with Sun™ StoreEdge™ Storage Resource Management Suite Software.

Consistent with our support for open interoperability of storage hardware and software, Hitachi Data Systems will join with other SNIA members in the Emerging Technologies theme area to demonstrate the power of Web-based Enterprise Management (WBEM) and Common Information Model (CIM) technology for enabling heterogeneous storage management.

Hitachi Data Systems will also provide Hitachi Freedom Storage™ hardware, software and support for the Storage Management, Data Protection/Backup and Recovery, and Storage Virtualization sub-themes. Demonstrations from Sun and VERITAS® are both utilizing Freedom Storage.

"The opportunity to see storage solutions reflecting real-life IT environments in one location and to meet the architects of the solutions is invaluable to storage decision makers," said Ed Von-Adelung, Co-Chair of the SNIA Interoperability Committee.

This year's Lab will focus on three solution areas: Enterprise, Departmental, and Emerging Technologies. The solutions include multi-vendor demonstrations of business continuance, storage management, virtualization, backup and recovery, security, a Network Operations Center, IP Storage, InfiniBand, and management of storage networks using the CIM -WBEM Web-based Enterprise Management architecture.

"We are delighted that the foremost storage hardware and software companies have chosen to participate in the SNW Interoperability Lab," said Vincent Franceschini, SNIA Board Director, and senior director, Future Technologies, Hitachi Data Systems. "The opportunity to see in one location real life environments that feature today's leading solutions, and also meet the architects of those solutions in person, is invaluable to storage decision makers."

Located at the site of SNW 2002 at the Marriott Desert Springs Resort, the Interoperability Lab will be open Wednesday, April 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 4, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Storage Networking World Conference & Expo is co-owned and produced by ComputerWorld and the SNIA. The latest conference program information is available online at www.snwusa.com.
