Hitachi Data Systems and US Data Authority Partner to Provide Internet Storage Infrastructure Service

US Data Authority Plans to Deploy More than 1,000 Terabytes of Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Products Within Three-Year Period

Santa Clara, California, 30 April 2001 — Hitachi Data Systems today announced that it has reached an agreement with US Data Authority (USDA), of Boca Raton, Florida, to expedite the delivery of storage systems needed to launch a U.S.-based Internet Storage Infrastructure (ISI) service. During the next 36 months, USDA plans to install more than 1,000 terabytes of Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ storage systems in its U.S. facilities.

"Partnering with Hitachi Data Systems is a solid step forward for US Data and will make us a total solutions provider for businesses," said US Data COO Dominick F. Maggio. "We built a national network designed to offer redundant, high-speed connectivity for small to medium enterprises. With the quality of the Hitachi product, as well as their ongoing technical support, US Data will earn a position of leadership in data storage."

Due to the immense volume of Internet traffic, USDA sees a substantial and immediate need for an affordable, scalable storage solution. USDA will leverage its existing network to be early to market with a nationwide online data storage solution.

The Lightning 9900 is an ideal storage platform for data infrastructures such as those offered by USDA. Its unique internal switch architecture makes it possible to scale storage capacity up to 37 terabytes in a single system without impacting performance.

"We believe our partnership will be extremely beneficial to both US Data Authority and ourselves," said Hitachi Data Systems COO, Dave Roberson.. "We're committed to working with them to provide end users with the most robust storage infrastructure available in the marketplace."
