Davidson to focus on selling comprehensive, extremely reliable e-business solutions and high-impact technical services
14th February 2000 — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today announced the appointment of Jim Davidson as Vice President and General Manager of U.S. sales.
In his new role, Davidson is responsible for leading Hitachi Data Systems' U.S. sales organization, and will focus on selling integrated e-business solutions and technical services designed to enable customers to exploit the business-to-consumer and business-to-business opportunities of the Web. Davidson plans to sell Hitachi's industry-leading storage disk arrays and enterprise servers as integral parts of flexible solution suites designed to address the many and varied critical business issues faced by Hitachi's Global 1000 customer base.
"The future looks promising for hundreds of successful e-commerce Web sites, but it also promises to be a nightmare for the unprepared," said Davidson. "With billions of dollars at stake, the fight for online consumers is incredibly intense, and unprepared, non-responsive Web sites may as well close their doors today.
"To succeed, Web site managers need to anticipate how well they will handle peak loads of traffic that will greatly exceed anything they have experienced so far, and Hitachi Data Systems has the resources to help them do this. Our new arsenal of solutions - the Hitachi iSuite™, Hitachi Freedom Storage™ NanoCopy™, and the industry's broadest line of SAN services - is explicitly designed for companies who refuse to endure the cost of downtime, and insist on succeeding in the Internet economy."
Clark Straw, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Hitachi Data Systems, added, "Jim brings to this job a wealth of significant sales experience and will further strengthen Hitachi Data Systems' position as an influential enterprise solutions provider. Continuously achieving his sales targets during his prolific 11-year career at Hitachi Data Systems, we can depend on Jim to lead the U.S. sales team to successfully sell the type of reliable business solutions that our customers expect."
Davidson joined Hitachi Data Systems 11 years ago as a marketing representative in Kansas City. He was named district manager in 1994, and promoted to vice president and regional manager in 1997. During his time with the company, Davidson has consistently achieved his sales targets in all his assignments and recently ran the most successful region in the United States. Prior to joining Hitachi Data Systems, he held various management positions at Diebold, Inc. and Xerox Corp.
After graduating from Joplin High School in Joplin, Missouri, Davidson earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Missouri.
