Hitachi VisionBase 8245 offers relentless reliability and maximum uptime at an affordable price
14 September 1999 — Addressing the needs of small companies looking for an affordable way to expand their presence on the Internet, Hitachi Data Systems today announced immediate availability of a new entry-level, low cost, dual processor server powered by Intel's latest Pentium® III technology — the Hitachi VisionBase™ 8245. Pricing for the Hitachi VisionBase 8245 starts at $2,700, and includes a three-year, next business day, on-site limited warranty.
Like its upscale VisionBase siblings, the new Hitachi VisionBase 8245 is engineered to provide fast performance, scalability, and high availability in the most demanding business environments. The VisionBase 8245 is optimized to handle Internet applications processing, Web serving, database manipulation, workgroups, departmental, file, print, and replicated network needs. The server is an ideal solution for emerging small businesses in need of a reliable platform that will provide headroom to grow.
"Hitachi quality — a company standard since 1910 — backs every single product that the company makes," said Michael Krieger, Vice President of NT Server Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. "From our industry-leading mainframes, to our premier enterprise storage solutions, all the way down to our entry-level VisionBase 8245 PC servers, Hitachi's dedication to unparalleled refinement, reliability, ingenuity, and performance is apparent in every single company offering."
Enclosed in an elegant compact tower design, the VisionBase 8245 has an expandable architecture and can be configured with one or two Intel Pentium III 600MHz or 550MHz processors with 512KB of Level-2 cache per processor, up to 1GB of error checking and correcting (ECC) synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), up to 90 gigabytes of internal storage, and six PCI slots.
An optional feature on the VisionBase 8245 is Hitachi Systems Manager (HSM) software, which provides IT managers with network management and support. Derived from Hitachi's mainframe expertise, HSM's features include instant alert notification, asset management, remote control of servers, Windows NT cluster management in conjunction with Microsoft Cluster Server, and the ability to monitor from anywhere on the network. HSM contains a predictive failure analysis feature that will allow users, VARs, or their support organizations to order repair components or dispatch a service technician before a problem causes any "hard" errors.
