Information Builders and Hitachi Data Systems Provide Asset Management Flexibility to Common Clients

Hitachi's Virtual Server Facility provides server configuration flexibility and separate server identification for ISV contracts.

30 August, 1999 — Hitachi Data Systems today announced that Information Builders, a global leader in Web reporting and business intelligence solutions, will support all VSF™-capable mainframe processing platforms from Hitachi Data Systems and its distributors, running IBI products written for the S/390® environment.

VSF is only available on Hitachi's Skyline Trinium™, Pilot P9, and P8 systems, and is designed specifically to aid customers in asset management through its capability of setting precise boundaries within each processor and assigning unique serial numbers and model identifiers.

Utilizing advanced Instruction Processor (IP) Isolation Technology, Hitachi's line of VSF-capable mainframes enables users to create up to 15 discrete Virtual Servers within a single footprint, giving businesses the benefits of separate ISV agreements per defined business function. Users can employ one Virtual Server as a World Wide Web server, another as a data warehouse, and another for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications — thus maintaining users' flexibility to conduct their business.

Currently, Computer Associates International, BMC Software, ISM, Candle Corporation, Compuware, Isogon, and now Information Builders have endorsed VSF, providing asset management flexibility to common clients.
