Hitachi's VisionBase 8455 provides headroom to meet peak and projected workloads.
23 August, 1999 — Hitachi Data Systems today announced a new mid-range, four-way server, the Hitachi Visionbase™ 8455, available in September with Intel's latest Pentium® III Xeon™ 550MHz processors in either tower or rackmount versions.
The reliable architecture and balanced system design of Hitachi's VisionBase 8455 mid-range server makes it ideal for a multi-server clustering environment, and is optimized for Microsoft Cluster Server. The VisionBase 8455 can facilitate replicated networks, larger database applications, e-business, ERP, and run transaction-intensive applications for a wide range of industries, including finance, manufacturing, and telecommunications.
"Hitachi can help companies excel in a complex, heterogeneous environment, both in the high-end and middle-market space," said Michael Krieger, Vice President of NT Server Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. " "Together with our professional services offerings, Hitachi can develop integrated e-business systems that utilize the new VisionBase mid-range servers to deliver continuous data access, nonstop e-transaction processing, and scalable performance in any environment."
The VisionBase 8455's higher availability meets maximum uptime requirements, and provides a scalable platform with headroom to grow with business needs. The VisionBase 8455 can be configured with up to four Intel Pentium III Xeon 550MHz processors with up to 1MB of Level 2 cache per processor, up to 4GB of error checking and correcting (ECC) EDO memory, six hot-swap disk bays, seven PCI expansion slots, and redundancy in cooling systems and power supplies.
An optional feature on the VisionBase 8455 is Hitachi Systems Manager (HSM) software, which provides IT managers with network management and support. Derived from Hitachi's mainframe expertise, HSM's features include instant alert notification, asset management, remote control of servers, NT cluster management in conjunction with Microsoft MSCS, and the ability to monitor from anywhere on the network. HSM contains a predictive failure analysis component that will allow users, VARs, or their support organizations to order repair components or dispatch a service technician before a problem causes any "hard" errors.
The VisionBase 8455 will be available in September in the Americas, with availability in Europe and Asia Pacific slated for later this year. VisionBase servers are available through Hitachi Data Systems' value-added resellers (VARs) — with selected configure-to-order options — and are fully backed by Hitachi Data Systems' service and support. As part of the service and warranty program, Hitachi Data Systems provides toll-free, 24 by 7 customer support at 1-800-776-6747 or via email at support@hds.com.
