The raw performance of 280 MIPS per engine now available to enterprises in the form of 2- and 3-way Trinium models.
Trinium Technology extends customers the business advantages of Hitachi's Virtual Server Facility and built-in system redundancy.
27 July 1999 — Hitachi Data Systems today announced two new models of the only enterprise server on the planet with a design point of 99.999% availability, the Hitachi Skyline Trinium™. The new models will be available in December 1999 as limited availability models to satisfy specific customers' business requirements.
The introduction of these two new Trinium™ models provides customers with a lower point of entry into the Trinium family of enterprise servers, while at the same time enabling them to leverage the benefits of Trinium Technology — technology designed to provide extreme availability and flexibility for today's rapidly changing business environment.
The two new Trinium models introduced today are: New Model MSU Description

3008 134 3-way
With the explosive growth of businesses in the Internet economy, the scalability of the Trinium will enable customers to expand from a 2- to 3-way system all the way to a 16-way complex delivering a blistering 3,200 MIPS of processing power.
"The architecture built into the Skyline Trinium is several generations ahead of any of our competitors' mainframe products," said Chris Worrall, Vice President of Product Management, Hitachi Data Systems Enterprise Servers. "Trinium is designed for the availability requirements of e-business and will provide our customers with extreme availability, scorching performance, and the power to compete globally. While other vendors may claim 99.999% availability, Hitachi is the only company to provide a system that has actually been designed to provide that level of uptime."
Trinium will also enable businesses to leverage Hitachi's Virtual Server Facility (VSF™), designed to aid customers in software asset management through its capability of setting precise boundaries within the processor and assigning unique serial numbers and model identifiers. Thus far, VSF has been endorsed by Computer Associates International, BMC Software, ISM, Candle Corporation, and Compuware.
Several Skyline Trinium models are currently undergoing final testing in a myriad of extreme business environments in Hitachi Data Systems' Santa Clara Enterprise Laboratory, from where they will soon be shipped to initial customers. 4- to 12-way Trinium servers will be available in September 1999, 2- to 3-way versions will be available in December, with 13- to 16-engine models available by Q1 2000.
The 2- and 3-way models announced today further demonstrate Hitachi Data Systems' commitment to the unparalleled scalability of the Skyline Trinium.
