HDS Achieves SAP™ R/3® Platform Certification for VisionBase NT Servers

Entire Hitachi Data Systems server lineup now platform certified with SAP R/3.

30 June 1999 — Hitachi Data Systems today announced certification of its VisionBase™ line of highly-scalable Windows NT® servers running the industry-leading SAP™ R/3® enterprise business solutions. Platform certification testing on Windows NT was conducted by iXOS Software for SAP AG.

Hitachi Data Systems® also announced that its Intel® Pentium®-powered VisionBase server family has been certified as application servers for SAP R/3 in a DB2®-S/390® environment with Windows NT 4.0. The Hitachi VisionBase family includes the 8880R, the industry's first Profusion™-based eight-way server currently available. Incorporating Intel's latest Pentium III Xeon™ technology, the Hitachi VisionBase 8880R delivers high-end performance in the form of eight 500MHz processors, ensuring both power and flexibility for the most demanding computing environments. The VisionBase server family was tested for connectivity using Fibre Distributed Data Interchange (FDDI).

With these certifications, the entire Hitachi Data Systems server lineup, from the Skyline Trinium™ - the pinnacle of enterprise servers, with up to 3,200 MIPS of raw processing power - to the VisionBase PC Server family, is certified for use with SAP R/3 business solutions.

"What this means for customers is that Hitachi can provide a complete, enterprise-wide platform for SAP R/3 solutions today," said Lawrence Wilcox, SAP Global Alliance Manager, Hitachi Data Systems. "Hitachi's customers can now deploy their SAP R/3 business-critical applications on any of Hitachi's powerful server platforms - the industry's broadest line of high-performance servers."
