Joins Project StoreX Core Platform Expert Group to participate in defining specifications for storage resource management.
May 4 1999 — Demonstrating its commitment to open-systems computing, Hitachi Data Systems today announced support for the Project StoreX initiative, a universal framework designed to reduce the complexity and cost of managing heterogeneous networked storage solutions. Representatives from Hitachi Data Systems will participate in the Project StoreX Core Platform Expert Group which will define the specifications for extending Java technology capabilities to the management of storage resources.
"Hitachi Data Systems is very pleased to participate in the StoreX initiative," said David Coombs, Vice President and General Manager, Hitachi Data Systems Enterprise Storage. "We believe that this initiative represents a unique opportunity for the development of open, industry-wide standards for the management of networked storage. As we move to deliver more and more networked storage solutions in multi-vendor environments, our customers will benefit greatly from this effort."
"Hitachi Data Systems' participation in the development of the core specification of Project StoreX illustrates the broad, strategic support StoreX is receiving," said Denise Shiffman, Director, Content Services, Sun Microsystems Network Storage. "Hitachi Data Systems' support is important not only in the specification phase of this initiative, but also in promoting the development of solutions based on StoreX technology to ensure true multiplatform storage management and interoperability."
Using specifications from the Expert Group, Hitachi Data Systems intends to develop software to enable its Freedom Storage™ products to participate in the open, StoreX-based management framework. StoreX will extend the "Write Once, Run Anywhere" capability of Java technology to the storage data services and storage management market.
