Alliance offers customers an end-to-end hardware and software storage solution with superior data availability, performance and integrity.
April 21 1999 — Hitachi Data Systems®, a leading provider of business solutions for the world's most IT-intensive corporations, and VERITAS® Software Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTS), the leading provider of end-to-end storage management solutions, today announced a collaborative agreement to provide customers with an integrated storage management and recovery solution for their heterogeneous enterprise environments. Hitachi Data Systems plans to offer the VERITAS Foundation Suite™, which is comprised of VERITAS File System™ and VERITAS Volume Manager™, along with its Hitachi Freedom Storage™ products. This comprehensive hardware and software solution will provide customers with high data availability, performance, and integrity.
"In today's enterprise, administrators are challenged with the task of effectively managing increased amounts of data while minimizing administrative costs," said Steve Colman, vice president, worldwide OEM operations for VERITAS Software Corporation. "VERITAS is working with Hitachi Data Systems in order to help simplify storage management and reduce administrative costs by offering a compatible set of solutions suited for multi-vendor environments."
"Hitachi Data Systems is committed to offering customers integrated, customized storage solutions for their business-critical systems," said James E. Harris, group vice president of marketing, alliances, and channel sales, Hitachi Data Systems. "Through this agreement, Hitachi Data Systems can extend its open-system offerings for distributed environments and provide customers with a high-quality storage solution that is optimized for their computing environments."
This joint agreement enables enterprise customers to leverage the strengths of RAID hardware configurations and software implementations to enhance their ability to manage storage online. By operating Hitachi Data Systems' 5700E, 5800, and 7700E Freedom Storage products with VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS File System, customers can access data across multiple heterogeneous platforms without compromising availability and performance.
In addition, customers using this integrated solution will benefit from:
a powerful, quick-recovery journaling file system, which augments UNIX® file management with continuous availability, increased bandwidth, and up-to-date structural integrity;
scalable performance and capacity to meet the demands of increased user loads in client/server environments;
on-line reconfiguration of mirrors or RAID set levels without taking workers offline;
improved performance and ensured data availability and integrity through disk usage analysis and RAID techniques that dynamically configure disk storage; and
greater availability through use of on-line disk and storage management for enterprise computing, as well as Storage Area Network (SAN) environments, without user groups having to log off.
The VERITAS Foundation Suite is immediately available on SCSI-attached Freedom Storage 5700E, 5800, and 7700E subsystems. Availability on Fibre Channel-attached Freedom Storage subsystems is planned for the third quarter of this year. Pricing is tiered based on the server connected to the subsystem with prices ranging from $5,000 for desktop/workgroup servers up to $73,000 for global enterprise servers. Tiered pricing is also available for departmental and enterprise servers.
