Hitachi Data Systems Gaining Steam
"HDS gained share over EMC at the high end in CQ4. We note that EMC’s Symmetrix revenue, which includes software, was flat Y/Y in CQ4 and was flat Y/Y for full-year CY05. HDS, which is mostly high-end systems sales, grew 19% Y/Y is U.S. dollars to $754 mln (118 yen to USD), or 35% Y/Y to ¥89 bln. In CY05, HDS grew 11% Y/Y to $2.8 bln. Although HDS had a relatively easier comparison with CQ404, as the TagmaStore had only been recently introduced, we still believe HDS gained share from EMC in the high end this December quarter." Hitachi Results Indicate Healthy Demand for High End Storage
"Hitachi Data Systems’s report of strong results for the September quarter and a strong start in October suggest that demand for high end storage is solid going into CQ4. We believe Hitachi Data Systems gained some market share at the high end of the market." (03-Nov-2005)
HDS Midrange Product Refresh Will Keep EMC on Its Toes
"HDS offers superior virtualization (in the array), based on scalability, reliability and
performance. We concur with HDS’s claim that EMC is “behind” with its network-based
virtualization product (Invista)." (18-Jul-2005)
Hitachi Raises the Bar
"This makes HIT the first to market with controller based virtualization, which we deem more logical and more likely to gain customer traction than appliance-based approach from EMC, IBM and other SAN (Storage Area Network) vendors." (08-Sep-2004)
