access control list (ACL)
- A list of permissions attached to an object.

British thermal unit (Btu)
- A unit of energy used globally in the power, steam generation, and heating and air conditioning industries.
Business Continuity Manager Software for IBM z/OS

- A progression of disaster recovery, aimed at letting an organization continue functioning after (and ideally during) a disaster, rather than simply being able to recover after a disaster.
cache logical partitions (CLPR)
- A user-dedicated region that can be used by partitioning the cache region of a cache memory.
Cache-Hierarchical Star Network (C-HSN)
- The network used for transferring data to and from the main global cache.
capital expenditure (CAPEX)
- Funds used by a company to acquire or upgrade physical assets such as property, industrial buildings, or equipment.
Chargeback software

Command Control Interface (CCI) software
- Software installed on open-system hosts, letting TrueCopy and ShadowImage perform operations on the Hitachi Lightning 9900 and Universal Storage Platform (USP) systems.
command line interface (CLI)
- A method of interacting with an operating system or software using a command line interpreter.
common information model (CIM)
- A standard that defines how managed elements in an IT environment are represented as a common set of objects and relationships between them.
common Internet file system (CIFS)
- See server message block (SMB).

Dataset Replication software for IBM z/OS

DeskStar
- A product line of computer hard drives.
Device Manager
- A Control Panel applet included with Microsoft Windows operating systems that lets the user display and control the hardware attached to the computer.
direct attached storage (DAS)
- A digital storage system directly attached to a server or workstation, without a storage network in between.
disaster recovery
- The process of regaining access to the data, hardware, and software necessary to resume critical business operations after a natural or human-induced disaster.
disk controller (array control frame)
- The circuit that lets the CPU communicate with a hard disk, floppy disk or other kind of disk drive.
domain controllers (DC)
- The server that responds to security authentication requests (logging in, checking permissions, and so on) in the Windows Server domain.

enterprise systems connection (ESCON)
- An optical serial interface between IBM mainframe computers and peripheral devices such as storage and tape drives.
end of life (EOL)
- When a vendor will no longer be marketing, selling, or promoting a particular product and may be ending or limiting support for said product as well.
Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL)
- The most prominent Fibre Channel standard.
Fibre Channel protocol (FCP)
- Specifically designed for highly efficient operations using hardware.
FICON
- The IBM proprietary name for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) FC-SB-3 (Single-Byte Command Code Sets-3 Mapping Protocol) for Fibre Channel protocol.
field replaceable unit (FRU)
- A circuit board, part, or assembly that can be quickly and easily removed from a personal computer (PC) or other piece of electronic equipment and replaced by the user or a technician without having to send the entire product or system to a repair facility.
gigabit Ethernet (GigE)
- A term describing various technologies for transmitting Ethernet frames at a rate of a gigabit per second, as defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.3-2005 standard.
gigabit per second (Gbps)
- A unit of data transfer rate equal to 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps).
Global Link Availability Manager software
