HDS Should Gain Share in CQ3
"Hitachi’s virtualization solution gaining traction. We were somewhat surprised to hear that Hitachi’s sales of its virtualization solutions for heterogeneous storage (such as EMC) is starting to grow well. During the last 90 days, there was a noticeable improvement in interest for these solutions. (Could this be a factor in EMC’s slowing software sales?) 25-30% of the company’s bids are now for heterogeneous solutions vs. 0% six months ago."

Enterprise Hardware Comment
"In our conversation with Hitachi about the new DMX, the company claims that it would still have seven key advantages over EMC: embedded virtualization (EMC Invista is a separate product), logical partitioning, storage agnostic replication, higher-cached bandwidth, higher IOPs, more paths to cache, and the ability to attach SATA drives to the Hitachi Tagmastore." Hitachi Brings Tagmastore to the Midrange
"Today, EMC competitor Hitachi Data Systems made two key announcements focused on the midrange segment of the market...
The NSC55, which will be sold by Sun and HP (increasing pressure a bit on EMC and NTAP in the midrange segment), offers several nice technology features (crossbar switch, controller-based virtualization, logical partitioning for QoS, and universal replication)...
The company also announced three channel-optimized midrange solutions: the Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) 200 and 500 models, and the Workgroup Modular Storage (WMS) 100."

"We believe that Hitachi will gain share (perhaps 3-5pp) from EMC in the high-end RAID market during the March 2005 quarter…" (21-Sep-2004)
Enterprise Storage: Will HDS’ Lightning 3 Strike on September 7?
"This morning, Hitachi announced that it will be making a “revolutionary storage announcement” on September 7 at New York City’s Guggenheim Museum. It is widely expected by the street and the industry that the announcement will be Hitachi’s next-generation high-end array (Lightning-3)." (16-Aug-2004)
Enterprise Hardware Report
"We expect Hitachi to gain market share against EMC by the end of 2004 or in early 2005. Hitachi has the advantage over EMC of having two tier-1 OEMs (Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard) selling its Lightning array." (19-Jul-2004)
Sleeping Lion Awakening, at Last
"Hitachi’s FY3/04 results (announced on 28 April) showed sales and operating profit exceeding estimates by ¥300bn and ¥15bn, respectively. Operating profit of ¥184.8bn included ¥54bn in profit arising from daiko henjo (company projection: ¥41.3bn). Sales exceeded the company targets in all segments, a positive sign. Operating profit in 4Q FY3/04 came in at ¥7bn (¥11.9bn in 3Q) at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) and ¥6.3bn (¥4.5bn) at Hitachi Display." (28-Apr-2004)
